Indoor Garden

Indoor gardening is the act of growing plants indoors. This could be within a business location, an office building, at a residential home or restaurant. Indoor gardening is of different types, which includes hydroponic gardening, container gardening, vertical farms and more. Indoor gardening could be for decorative purposes, such as the flowers and trees often seen in shopping malls, sometimes used to provide a sense of privacy and serenity in restaurants. One of the easiest forms of indoor gardening is container gardening. In situations of container gardening, containers with the ability to hold soil can be utilised. Another example is hydroponic gardening. Hydroponic does not need soil, it relies on water to grow plants and the use of additives to provide the nutrients given by soils if the plants were grown outdoors.

Here are few leafy greens and vegetables that can be grown indoors all year round:

Carrots

large carrots cannot be derived from an indoor garden, but with a pot deep enough fresh carrots can be enjoyed all year round. Varieties of shorter carrots need at least eight inches deep pot, and longer carrots need 12 inches to attain their full size. Choose a slightly wet organic potting soil mix and fill the container up to an inch from the top. Plant the seeds 1/4 inch deep. Carrots should be kept in a sunny location and keep them a bit wet but not soaked. when they sprout, make sure each carrot is an inch from its neighbour. It is advisable to plant batches of carrots every two weeks to keep them coming all year long.

Lettuce greens

Lettuce greens, also known as leafy greens, although they come to a wide variety of plants and very easy to grow. Lettuce greens do not take up a lot of space, which makes it an excellent choice for a sunny windowsill. Search for lettuce mixes marketed as cutting leaf lettuce varieties. With these, one can harvest the leaves, and the plant will grow back, giving you more vegetable for half the work. Start your seeds in a container or pot with drainage holes. Fill with slightly wet potting soil and dredge five to 15 seeds on the surface. They should be covered with 1/8 inch of soil and mist them with a spray bottle until the surface is a bit wet but not soaked. Place them under a grow light or in a sunny window and keep nice and moist. Thin the seedlings when they sprout, leaving the most powerful to grow into tasty fresh lettuce.

Arugula

Arugula is Spicy and delicious; they grow faster and sprout quickly. Each plant gives you several numbers of harvests if you leave the small ones at the centre and cut the larger leaves. Arugula like cooler temperatures better because it makes it a perfect vegetable to grow indoor. Dredge arugula seeds in your pots or container the same way you would do lettuce. They should be watered and placed in a sunny windowsill and diminishing out the weaker seedlings as needed.

Kale

kale is one of the most wonderful vegetables to grow indoors. It has been once a garnish and now a great superfood, like arugula, you can leave the small ones for later harvest and harvest the bigger leaves. You should Plant a few seeds in a medium-size pot or container and cover with 1/2 inch of soil. Keep the soil slightly wet and thin to one plant per pot because kale can get pretty large.

Microgreens

Sometimes having to wait for salad greens to grow can be tiring. Microgreens are vegetables to grow indoors because their growth is rapid, they take very little space and are entirely delicious. To grow microgreens, simply dredge a simple crop of microgreen seed mixes in a shallow or well-drained container. Cover the seeds with soil, keep it a bit wet, and harvest when the first “true leaves” of the plant comes up.

Scallions

Green onions as they can also be called gives you that onion taste without the space requirements. They can be started from seed or can be easily picked up at farmers market or at the grocery store. If roots attached after purchase, stick them in the soil, bury them to the top of the white bulb and watch them grow. Scallions can be harvested periodically.

Ginger

Ginger is one beautiful plant that looks a little like bamboo. It is advisable to start ginger by picking some up at a natural food store because they use fewer chemicals. After acquiring, they should be soaked in water for a few hours for the removal of any growth inhibitor chemicals on the plant. The root should be placed in a shallow, wide container and narrowly cover it with soil. Keep it a bit wet and watch it grow.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes grow greatly in pots or containers, make sure your tomato gets the best seat at the window to allow sunlight. It is highly advisable to start your seeds in a seed flat and transplanting them into a large pot when they grow a few inches tall. This enables strong roots in them. Trellis your tomato with a stake for further support and fertilise every two weeks.

Lemons

Lemons technically are not a vegetable but go so well with a lot of dishes which makes it almost impossible to exclude from the list. Dwarf lemon trees do make beautiful houseplants, they also provide juicy lemons that match greatly well with vegetable dishes. While lemon can be started from seed, a lot of potted citrus enthusiasts buy a dwarf citrus tree a nursery. Growing a productive tree from seed takes a very long time, that is why professional nurseries use the grafting process which keeps potted lemons small enough to grow indoors.

All of these vegetables require partial sunlight and well-drained soil. For better results, it is advisable to place a grow light near your plants during the winter months to boost your garden’s yields.
